Voyage With The Pirate King

Chapter 139 - Old Grudge

Without being aware that they were being watched the fight began turning this eerie desert into a battlefield. Sounds of slashing, stabbing and painful wails echoed in the once silent desert.

The only good thing was the fact that this battle was happening at night. If it was during the day with that scorching heat then the difficulty level of the task would have been upgraded.

The pair of ladies tore into the left flank breaking down their defences. What Ji Yao said about them was indeed true. They were well-coordinated as though they were an extension of each other.

If you looked closely you would think they were enjoying the fight. But as always there is someone who would try by all means to disrupt this harmony. That person was none other than Zhang Li. In the midst of all that chaos, he still fought his way through the crowd just to be close to the lady herself.

.

He was like an annoying knight who insists on saving a damsel that\'s not necessarily in distress and doesn\'t want to be saved. A gust of wind blew past Lady Ching Sei and struck a half-beast creature behind her sending it flying into the great distance.

Lady Ching Sei didn\'t even look at him. Based on the technique used she knew who it was. Zhang Li was fighting like a toddler seeking attention. His behaviour was as though saying, \'look at me, play with me and praise me damnit!\' but unfortunately he fell for a tough nut that is very hard to crack.

Lan Wu who had been dumped by a pig teammate came after Zhang Li clothes all bloody like he had been dunked in a tank of blood.

And one may ask why would he look that way? It was because he had to deal with double the workload after that idiot over there left him to chase a skirt. If it weren\'t for Huishe Yue he would have gone to meet Meng Po already. Trust me he wasn\'t ready to meet her at all.

Now he owed Huishe Yue a favour. Does anyone know how hard it is to owe a bully a favour? They would milk you dry till you resemble beef jerky with nothing left to give. He wished he could just quit being a pirate and just wander into the desert like a nomad just so that he doesn\'t have to deal with Huishe Yue.

Zhang Li almost got a fright when he saw Lan Wu. The rusty smell of blood made him want to retch but he couldn\'t lose face in front of his goddess. He pretended not to know why Lan Wu was like this acting all innocent.

"Huh, there you are. You, you had me worried," said Zhang Li with a guilty tone that could get him sentenced by a jury from one sentence alone.

Lan Wu just glared at him and dropped one sentence, "Pig teammate," through gritted teeth and continue engaging in battle.

Everyone glanced over in his direction including Xiaoyu who for once was hard at work focused on the task at hand i.e. not daydreaming about Ji Yao in the slightest.

Zhang Li felt like he had lost face in front of his goddess so he chuckled lightly as he said, "What?" like he didn\'t know what their looks meant.

Because he was standing there like a lamppost, a creature managed to sneak up from behind and lunged at him. Before he could even react Lady Ching Sei rescued his annoying ass tearing the beast apart. She landed right in front of him her nice smelling hair blowing along with the wind.

There was a bloodstain on her cheek making her look like a dangerous beauty with the air of death surrounding her. For once Zhang Li\'s mouth was shut tongue-tied by this beauty. This was an inevitable consequence.

He was so enchanted living in a gorgeous dream only to have it shattered to pieces by one word, "Idiot," spoken by his goddess.

He knew he was an idiot and had been called an idiot dozens of times by Lady Ching Sei but this was the first time she called him an idiot when she knew he liked her. Well, let\'s light a candle for Zhang Li\'s fragile heart.

The ZhangSei drama wasn\'t as interesting as what was happening over at YaoFei CP. Things started off with Ji Yao doing what he does best and soon enough the pack was separated in a divide and conquer strategy implemented by Ji Yao.

The pair of them were fending off the pack coming after them. It was only after separating from the rest did they realise something was off. The number of half beasts attacking them was twice the number of the various divisions created in the chaos. It also seemed like the half beasts hot on their trail were faster than the others and their attacks were much more vicious and aggressive. It was as though they were the target all along making this task incredibly difficult.

Ji Yao swung his sword beheading the beast sneaking up on Rui Fei. The cracking sound rung beside Rui Fei\'s ear making him flinch a little. He should remind himself never to offend Ji Yao otherwise he might meet the end of that sword that extends into a whip-like contraption.

But even he had to admit Ji Yao looked especially dashing handling that whip. He wouldn\'t mind being the criminal if the executioner looked that good. Swap out the sword for an actual whip and he might be able to handle it.

Rui Fei gulped as he shifted his gaze away and stopped his brain from going astray. "Did you offend someone?" he asked as he withdrew his seraphic energy. The entire ground had bodies of half beasts scattered all over.

The smell of death pervaded the air but Rui Fei didn\'t even put it in his sight. He was trying not to look at Ji Yao otherwise he won\'t stop staring. He kicked the half-beast on the ground waiting for Ji Yao to answer.

Ji Yao crouched down as he held up the head of one of the beasts. It had the face of a wolf but it was without fur. Its teeth were as sharp and lethal as that of the canine species. But the thing that attracted his attention the most was the now dim Qilin symbol on its forehead.

Using a handkerchief he held up the head with blood still seeping from its severed neck and said, "I haven\'t but my mother did. Whoever is in this desert is using me to pay for an old grudge." He had mixed feelings about this. He can accept being involved with his father\'s enemies but as for his mother\'s, he felt like that had nothing to do with him. He fixed his gaze on that Qilin symbol recalling every word that man said that day. It seemed Qilin Hao\'s relationship with this Frankenstein wasn\'t simple.
